An ancient tree pan dried style black tea from the first and still one of our favorite tea areas we work with, Giàng Pằng in Yên Bái.
I pretty much only know how to make raw puerh and white tea I’ve tried to make black tea a couple times and the results have been disappointing) so I focused on raw puerh during my time here this season. However, our friend Lềnh’s cousin is also a tea maker and has been working on improving his black tea production over the past couple years.
The first few seasons’ batches didn’t turn out so well but this year’s surprised me.
This tea brews up quickly into a rich red and slightly golden soup. This is the most fruit forward of the 3 Assamica black teas (Giàng Pằng, Hà Giang Air/ Sun Dried) we have this season. I would say the most similar fruit I associate to this flavor would be plums. Heavily fruity with chocolate and a lingering honey sweet aftertaste with a light refreshing astringency.
