A very interesting version of a green tea made from ancient trees on the upper slopes of Chiêu Lầu Thi mountain in Hà Giang.
The ancient trees used to make this tea are growing at an elevation of 2000m-2300m and the leaves have a long thin shape and dark green color with some taking on red and purple hues. The tea trees used to make this tea are of a white flower non-Sinensis, Camellia varietal. The research is inconclusive as to which one it actually is.
This tea brews up quickly into a rich golden brew.
Mellow with a fruity, vegetal, buttery umami rich profile. I get notes of tropical fruit, berries, leafy green vegetables, honey and a bit of forest moss/ woodiness.
This tea includes a bit of intentional oxidation during processing and it borders the line with an oolong and I even get notes that I get in some lightly oxidized wild tree black teas.
Long lasting sweet and throat cooling finish with a light refreshing astringency, no bitterness.
