This is a really interesting tea produced from a high mountain forest tea tree varietal.
This tea is from ancient trees growing on the upper slopes (2000m+) of Tây Côn Lĩnh mountain, the highest peak in Hà Giang. There are an abundance of wild growing tea tree varietals growing in the forests of northwestern Vietnam but there is still a lack of research to give every varietal a scientific name.
Camellia Crassicolumna? Something else? I'll just stick with "wild tree" for now.
This tea is processed in the typical raw puerh style (withering, kill-green, rolling, sun-drying), but has a very different character than a typicial Assamica tea.
Beautiful multi-colored leaves and furry buds give this tea a really appealing look. This tea brews up a misty medium bodied soup. I get strong sweet floral and dried fruit notes with this mossy forest background. The couple years of aging have really done great things for this tea. Really light astringency and no bitterness. Nice relaxing qi starts to take effect after a few cups.
I like to brew this with 90-95 degree water for long steeps. It is very flexible and you really can't overbrew it.
